The perfect wardrobe interiors

Do you sometimes feel that, although you have a built-in wardrobe, your clothes are always in disarray? Getting the perfect configuration for your wardrobe interiors is an art. The trick is to get just the right mix of hanging space, shelves, and drawers, never mind enough shoe space.

Designing functional and efficient wardrobes is what Fineline Wardrobe Solutions does best! Today, we’ll share some of our thoughts on how to get the perfect wardrobe interiors that work.

Fineline Wardrobe Solutions are the experts at designing wardrobe interiors that work.

Out-of-season clothes: out of sight, out of mind

First things first, make your life easier and put away your out-of-season clothes. This way, you only have to organise the clothes that you will be wearing for the current season. Rotating your seasonal clothes will free up loads of space in your wardrobe. Fineline Wardrobe Solutions always creates a large open storage area at the top of their wardrobes. This is so handy for things like suitcases and storage boxes to store away clothes that you won’t be needing for a while.

What to hang vs. what to fold

There is no exact science to keeping your wardrobe neat and organised. Many people think that to keep things in order, you need to hang absolutely everything. This is not true. Yes, you should definitely hang some items, but it’s best to keep others folded. Here is a summary of what to hang and fold.

What to hang:

Dresses. All dresses should be hung. For silky dresses, use a padded or velvet hanger so they don’t slip off.

Blouses and shirts. When hanging a button-up, keep the top button closed to keep the collar intact.

Trousers and dress pants. You can either hang these on hangers with clips at the waist, or fold them in half and hang them over the hanger.

Jackets, blazers, and coats. Curved suit hangers are the ideal place to store these items.

Skirts. Use hangers with clips, or hang them by their loops.

Scarves. Fold scarves in half and hang them over the hanger, or you can use a special scarf hanger that holds multiple scarves.

What to fold:

T-shirts. Hangers can stretch your tees, so master a folding trick to fold them up quickly and neatly.

All knitwear. This includes sweaters, knit dresses, and knit pants. Hanging these items could cause them to stretch. Additionally, they don’t require hanging because they don’t wrinkle.

Jeans, cords, and khakis. You can fold casual pants (including shorts) made from durable fabrics.

Tracksuits and gym wear. You can fold all activewear, including swimwear, and store it on a shelf or in a drawer.

Heavily embellished evening gowns. This may come as a surprise, but since they tend to be heavy, hanging them can distort their shape. Fold them in layers of tissue paper and store them in a safe place.

Once you know what to hang and what to fold, you can estimate how much hanging and shelf space you need for your wardrobe interiors.

A salesman from Fineline Wardrobe Solutions would be able to look at your current wardrobe of clothes and accurately determine how much hanging space, shelving, and drawers you need to fit everything perfectly.

Hanging space

When creating hanging space in a wardrobe, the most efficient thing to do is to put in plenty of half-hanging space. However, it is also important to include some full-length hanging space for those longer dresses and coats. This will keep these items from crumpling and collecting dust on the floor of your wardrobe.

Velvet hangers are ideal for preventing wide-necked tops, camis, and silky dresses and blouses from slipping off the hanger. It is so frustrating to find one of your favourite delicate pieces lying on the floor of your wardrobe. Keeping all your hangers the same is the easiest way to make your wardrobe interiors look professional.

Shelf space

Your shelves often hold the key to effective cupboard organisation. At Fineline Wardrobe Solutions, we understand the importance of including sufficient shelves in your wardrobe’s interior configuration.

It’s not just how many shelves you have, but how you divide them. Having extended flat shelves does offer a lot of storage space, but they can also be a nightmare to keep different clothes piles separated. If so, these clever shelf dividers may be perfect. They maximise space while also reducing clutter and chaos.

If vertical piles of clothes frustrate you, for example, when you pull out a T-shirt from the bottom of the pile, disturbing the other perfectly folded ones, then maybe shelf storage boxes with individual pockets are something you could try. Each folded item has its own compartment, and when removed from the box, it won’t disturb any of the others. These boxes are also stackable, which saves on space.

Cubes are another excellent way to store folded clothes. We at Fineline Wardrobe Solutions refer to these as pigeon holes, and they are ideal for storing a variety of items, such as handbags, clothes, accessories, and shoes. You could even find storage boxes to fit your pigeon holes perfectly to enhance your wardrobe interiors.

We love a corner space in a wardrobe; it is an opportunity to give you some nice L-shaped shelves that are great for storing larger items such as handbags and hats. Clever storage compartments are also available to organise all those lovely smaller handbags and clutches. Again, these units are stackable, which saves a lot of space.

Shoe storage

Whether your wardrobe is large or small, most wardrobe interiors lack sufficient space for shoe storage, leading to a disorganised mess on the floor of your cupboard. At Fineline Wardrobe Solutions, designing the right amount of shoe storage is our top priority.

If you have ample space, these glamorous sloped shoe shelves will have you shaking in your boots with excitement. The sloped angle of the shoe shelves shows off the entire shoe. A guard strip stops the shoe from slipping off the shelf.

If space is more of a concern, these pull-out shoe drawers are the perfect combination of function and form. These deep-set drawers with a centre bar allow you to stack shoes two deep, maximising both space and appearance.

Drawer storage

Wardrobe interiors without drawers is so frustrating! All those smaller items, such as socks, underwear, and belts, just floating around on a shelf, getting jumbled and lost. Drawers are an integral part of a happy wardrobe interior.

Although perfect for smaller wardrobe items, drawers could also sometimes do with a little help to maximise their tidiness. There are so many handy items on the market, such as drawer dividers, fold-out drawer compartments, and special underwear storage boxes with individual storage pockets. Any of these items can help you keep your drawers as clutter-free and orderly as possible.
