Two weeks ago we delved into designing and decorating a teenage boy’s bedroom. Teenage boys like things simple; however, with a teenage girl’s bedroom you can have a lot more flair and fun. However, before indulging in Pinterest mood boards and wild shopping sprees, it’s important to remember that a teenager’s room needs to address some crucial functional aspects.
The Functional Essentials
1. Storage and organisation
Although most girls are more orderly and tidy than teenage boys, girls tend to accumulate a lot more stuff. Whether it’s clothes, shoes, accessories, beauty products, or mementos, having enough storage to keep a teenage girl’s bedroom organised and decluttered is essential.

1. Colour
In a teenage girl’s bedroom, the colour spectrum is limitless. A girl’s colour choices may range from dark and moody to bold and bright or soft feminine pastels.
Different tones in the same colour range create a different vibe; for example, below, a soft lavender colour scheme is used to create a lovely, soft space.

Many girls still lean towards pink tones. Pink is gorgeous and chic, but make sure it is used in a sophisticated way so that it doesn’t resemble a little girl’s room again. Consider combining pink with grey, which will make the room look more grown-up.

Make the feature wall your main pattern focus and then bring in contrasting secondary patterns with scatter cushions and rugs.
Another excellent place to bring in a pattern is on the bedding. Again, make the bed the pattern focal point and then bring in complementary secondary patterns around the room.

We tend to find a lot of soft, fluffy textures in teenage girls bedrooms. To balance this out and make the room feel more sophisticated, try layering in some more natural but rough-textured accessories, such as rattan or natural wood.
