Reinvent Your Wardrobe and Start A Capsule Wardrobe

28th-October---Original-Article

Are you fed up with finding nothing to wear each morning? You try this on, and that on, spin around and check in the mirrors but nothing fits or seems right or comfortable. It seems you need to reinvent your clothing cupboard and start a capsule wardrobe. Here's how...

What is a capsule wardrobe?
It's a limited and small collection of clothing that you love which you can mix and match with each other to create many outfits for a variety of occasions. Keeping to a small set of clothing will keep your shopping to a minimum, save you money and make your morning dressing routine a walk in the park.

How to start a capsule wardrobe
Empty your clothing cupboard so that it is bare. Put all that clothing to one side for the time being. When your cupboard is empty, it is easy to begin your capsule wardrobe.

So, let's get started!

Select your Base Colour
Navy or black are the most commonly selected base colours because both match with so many other colours.

Select Your Neutral-colour Coordinating Ba
sics
These are tops and bottoms in solid colours, like black, white, grey, cream and beige. Take your time finding these basics and ensure that they fit perfectly, flatter your body, make you feel comfortable. Look for classic styles which seldom go out of fashion and are made from the best quality fabric that you can afford.

Start minimally. The number of pieces in your capsule clothing cupboard will depend on your lifestyle but be sure you have all the basics and that they are well-designed and a perfect fit.

We suggest you start by selecting 5 bottoms (skirts, trousers, jeans). Then select 2 or 3 tops to match each of the bottoms ensuring that each top answers the following questions:

  1. Does this fit me perfectly?
  2. Does it go with at least 3 of my Basic items?
  3. How many outfits can I create with this item?
  4. Does it suit my personal style?
  5. Does it suit my lifestyle?
  6. Is this piece made from good quality fabric or materials?

Select an Item in an Accent Colour
If you want to keep up with the latest fashion trends then add a seasonal item in one of the current fashionable colours making sure it colour-coordinates with your base colour.

Select a Few Patterned Items
For some variation add a few patterned basics which will blend well with your base colour, and accent colour, like a horizontally striped t-shirt or an item in a polka dot or floral fabric.

Select Outerwear Items
Complete your capsule cupboard with a jacket, whether casual or more formal and a coat if necessary.

Choose Shoes and Accessories
Choose your shoes according to your lifestyle and needs like a pair in your base colour - heels or flats, a nude pair - heels or flats, and sandals, a casual pair of takkies and boots. Accessorise with a handbag or two in your base colour to match all outfits. Depending on your personal preference, you may opt for a few other accessories like a jewellery or belt statement piece.

Now your capsule clothes cupboard is complete.

If you want to introduce new items from time to time, make sure that each piece answers the following questions:

  1. Does this fit me perfectly?
  2. Does it go with at least 3 of my Basic items?
  3. How many outfits can I create with this item?
  4. Does it suit my personal style?
  5. Does it suit my lifestyle?
  6. Is this piece made from good quality fabric or materials?

If you want a clutter-free wardrobe and to avoid the stress and time-wasting each day of searching for an outfit to wear, but still look good, then the capsule wardrobe is just the right thing for you.
