How to Create a Warm and Welcoming Home

There is nothing more flattering than having a home where your guests want to spend time in, but the right atmosphere is a difficult one to create, let alone define. If you feel your home is somewhat uncomfortable for your guests and want it to be a little more inviting, then have a look at these simple methods to make your home a warm and inviting place for you and your guests to enjoy.

First Impressions Matter:

We all know how important first impressions can be, so it would make sense to start boosting your home atmosphere where your guests first enter. Pay careful attention to the way your home entrance is put together; introduce a welcome mat or rug to guide your guests in, have a table or counter with a beautiful houseplant, and a mirror or interesting piece of art to set the mood for what they can expect in your home.

Never underestimate lighting:

Lighting is a key element in setting the mood in any room. Having an adjustable lighting system or a few well-placed sources of light gives you greater control over the mood. For an evening that's a little more intimate, like a dinner party or romantic night in, you'd probably prefer cosier lighting than when you're hosting a big family dinner.

Mix and Match Textures:

Make a room more visually interesting with a variety of textures that your guests will want to feel. If your walls, furniture, and floors are all too similar, consider throwing a fluffy rug to shake the room up a little bit. An interesting room is a room your guests will want to stay in and 'explore' with their eyes.

Using a well-considered colour scheme is key. Too many different colours can become distracting and will make your guests feel as though they have entered a room of chaos. Stick to neutral tones for the major elements of a room, such as the walls and furniture. Choose one or two colours that complement each other and your personality, and then decorate the room with small decoration pieces in shades of that colour.

Remember the bathroom:

Make sure that the guest bathroom is always well prepared.Simple things you can check to ensure it's up to scratch include; a good supply of toilet paper, fluffy hand towels that are clean, toilet spray, aromatic hand soap, a potted plant, and hand sanitiser.

Stick to you:

However you dress up or down your home to make it more welcoming to your guests, make sure to stay true to yourself and your personality. Your home is yours and you need to be comfortable in it for your guests to feel the same. Many of your guests will know you and if your home doesn't match, they may think there's something off and feel uncomfortable in the space.

Now let's get moving and create a fresh new space for you to enjoy.
